Software eating the world became a ´go to phrase´ for the last 10+ years to justify rise of software companies entering into new domains and digitising the otherwise analog processes.
As we see over the last 5 years a new wave of companies that are building interaction and engagement with 3d models of the world in form of gaming and VR…. the old phrase is now getting rehashed into ´3d is eating the world´or ´VR is eating the world´.
This is very apparent from the Nvidia GTC keynote by Jensen Huang where he talks about the omniverse that Nvidia is building. During the keynote he also narrates the origin of phrase Digital Twin at NASA and how they saved three astronauts in Apollo 13 mission some 50 years ago.
On a personal level, I am keen to scan 3d models of everyday objects around me using a smartphone and experiment with these models in the metaverse.
There are some investigations that I need to do from the right phone model, to scanning application, model hosting repository and ability to import the model into metaverse and ultimately tinker with them using my VR headset. I look forward to share more with you all about these experiments.
I am quiet convinced that 3d is going to eat the world …. provided you are hungry for it 🙂
