Business Concept : Digital Twin 4 Homes : TwinHome
The latest version of iphones have the LIDAR Sensor which allows you to capture the 3D model of an object in range. (<5M )
We have done some early experiments here in our own office to create the 3D models. Here: https://sketchfab.com/ishika1
We believe that sooner or later almost all the consumer grade phones would have the lidar sensor and the required software stack for consumers to scan every day object.
This brings us to the original question of comparing LIDAR to GPS, will it create new industry and applications. The short answer is yes. We believe that for normal consumers a good starting point would be a digital version of their own home.
If you could scan your house room by room and create an easy to maintain 3D version of it. With a mobile app extending editing/collaboration tools similar to Google Documents if we do it for 3D models of houses.
How can it help? Some possibilities here:
- Indexing objects at home: can it allow you to share positioning / placement of an everyday object with your family member. For example a car key or a document that you need them to bring to you.
- Placing furniture before you buy: Imagine integrating /enabling an IKEA app on top of your TwinHome could you start playing with various furniture in their catalogs and order it once the whole family gives their votes/go ahead.
- Collaborating with Professionals such as plumbers/architects/interior designers/wifi signal planners: If you had an ability to share a room or full house of yours to a plumber / architect/interior designers / wifi signal planner could they enable themselves better in terms of planning and giving you options virtually avoiding few visits.
- Cleaning Robots: We know that the cleaning robots learn the map of the house as they navigate in our houses. How about we kickstart their learning process by sharing the 3D model. Also, in turn they could tell us in realtime on the surface where cleaning is done or not. (like a heat map of cleaning)
- Machine readable and Human understandable workflows in the house: We all had cases when one of our family members wanted the items to be stacked in a particular order. Could they do it virtually in the TwinHome app and share it with a machine/human to emulate? This could be useful in office settings / libraries / ordinary homes. We may be able to do some neat tricks of sorting by title / size / shape etc in the background and make it efficient for humans in the real world.
