Will tools like DALL.E extend capabilities of Artists like what computer programs did for Chess players?

I have recently been playing around with DALL.E.

I happen to mention this to someone who is in the process of making an oil painting. As, I knew that he is a graphic designer as well. I wondered if he knew about DALL.E and possible impact on his work. I showed to him some images from Google Search that were created using DALL.E. He was awestruck with the images!

His very first question to me was ´how much I need to pay for the tool?´. I explained to him that I have it for free with a limited quota to create images. Beyond which I need to buy credits.

If you are curious about pricing. It is 115 images for 15 USD.

He further asked me if I can help him create an image against a prompt.

His vague description of the image he mentioned was like ´two men in Oslo Fjord fishing on a floating platform´. The result what I got from DALLE2 is the featured image of this post. So, I sent him for feedback and he shared with me his exact prompt.

The result of his new prompt is as follows:

an expressive oil painting of two men on a raft with a burnt down house in front of a city in the evening with rambrandt style

I further added the word Oslo to make it more relevant to local context. Here is the final result.

an expressive oil painting of two men on a raft with a burnt down house in front of oslo city in the evening with rambrandt style

Do you think tools like DALLE2 will soon become common before an artist starts thinking of a painting ?
